Privacy policy
Version of 2 November 2026. La Savor is the responsible party for the personal information you give La Savor. We follow the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA): we collect only what we need to run your bookings, keep it safe, and never sell it.
What we collect
- Account details: your name, email address, phone number, city and country, and your password (stored only as a one-way hash).
- Bookings: the addresses where chefs cook for you, dates, guest numbers, messages with chefs, reviews, tickets and table reservations.
- Allergies and dietary needs: health information, which POPIA treats as special personal information. We keep it only with your explicit consent, given in your taste profile.
- Payments: what you paid, when and how. Card and bank details are handled by our payment partners and never reach us.
- For chefs: identity document, food-safety certificate and bank details (stored encrypted), and the earnings and payouts on your account.
- Use of La Savor: dishes you like or save, chefs you follow, reward points, and basic technical information such as your IP address when you sign in or accept our terms.
Why we use it
To create and run your bookings and payments, to keep you safe (your allergy record goes to the chef you book), to pay chefs, to prevent fraud, to answer you when you contact us, to send the notifications you choose, and to suggest dishes and chefs you may like. We send news and partner offers only if you opt in, and every message has a way to stop them.
Who sees it
- The chef you book sees what they need to cook for you: your name, the event address, guest numbers and your allergy record. Your phone number is shared once the booking is paid.
- Service providers who work for us under contract: our payment partners (Yoco, PayFast or Ozow), Amazon Web Services (our servers, in Cape Town), Amazon's email service (in Ireland) and Google Firebase (app notifications). Where information leaves South Africa, it goes only to providers bound by data-protection rules at least as strong as POPIA.
- Sponsors only ever receive totals, such as views and clicks, never your identity.
- The law: we share information when the law requires it, for example with SARS or a court.
How long we keep it
We keep your account while it is open. Payment and booking records are kept for 5 years, as tax law requires, without your name once you close your account. Chef identity documents are deleted once they are no longer needed for verification, on request.
How we protect it
Everything travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Passwords are hashed, chef bank details are encrypted, identity documents are kept outside the public website, and only the La Savor staff who need it can see it.
Your rights
- Ask what information we hold about you and get a copy.
- Correct it: most of it you can change yourself in your account.
- Ask us to delete it, or close your account yourself in Notification settings → Close my account.
- Withdraw your consent for allergy information (delete it from your taste profile) or marketing (in notification settings) at any time.
- Object to how we use it, and complain to the Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za) if you are not happy with our answer.
Write to our Information Officer at hello@lasavor.com. We answer within 30 days.
Cookies
We use one cookie to keep you signed in and protect forms, and the app remembers your sign-in on your phone. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
Children
La Savor accounts are for people aged 18 or older. If a guest at a booking is a child, the adult who booked shares only what the chef needs, such as allergies.
Changes
We tell you in La Savor when this policy changes in a way that matters.
